Preparing my new food

In my last post I mentioned that I like my food when it’s a creamy paté texture. I’m a licker, not a biter, so I tend to lick the sauce off little chunks of food and leave the rest behind. Sometimes “behind” means pushed off the plate onto my place mat! Mom & Dad can smash the little pieces with the back of a fork, but they said that’s not very convenient. Mom decided it would be easier to run my food through a food processor.

Here’s our setup. The photo is staged so you can see it all in one photo. Everything is more spread out and I’m not on the counter while mom is prepping my food. Anyway, Mom whirls up 3 cans of each flavor and portions them into food storage containers. Luckily, each container holds exactly one can. She stores them in the freezer and moves them to the fridge as needed. She did 12 cans today (6 cans of both flavors) so that should last almost 2 weeks before we repeat the process.

That’s it, Mom. Grind up those little chunks and make it nice and creamy for me.

We have a full-size food processor, but doing smaller batches in our little processor does a better job at getting the food the consistency I want.

Since Mom discards the empty cans in the recycle bin, she decided it would be a good idea to save a label from each case of food and write the information from the bottom of the can on the back of the label. That way we have the info just in case there’s a problem with the food like a recall or something.

I sure am thankful I have a Mom who will put this much effort into making sure I have good food and it’s exactly to my liking….or should I say licking!

You probably haven’t noticed, but I haven’t shown my rear end or tail in a very long time. Mom is trying to get some photos that show how my furs are growing back. That will be our next post.

Raven, Moms are like that. They will do whatever they can to make you you have what you need. Right, Mom? I am so happy to hear that you are getting better! This is wonderful news! And…I actually got this notification! Yea! Hugs.

  2. Raven, cannot wait to see your butt photos! Oh wait, that didn’t come out right…LOL! Tell you mom that she’s very smart to take down the lot information on your food; I didn’t do that once, and the food I purchased was defective, but I’d already put everything into my own containers and couldn’t take it back to the store for a refund. Much more careful now!

This is very nice of your mom, Raven. We tend to do the same thing with some of our food, just lick and then meow because we’re starving. It’s great to hear your furs are growing back on your bum!

  5. Brian says:

Moms sure are special like that and we are so happy your furs are growing!

  6. Raven, your mom really loves you to go through all this for your food. But if it makes you feel good and stop licking, it’s so worth it.

What a great idea – your Mom is so smart! Our Samantha is the same way as you, she doesn’t like those chunks, so I think we might have to try this. The chunks are the only food she’ll eat, but she licks all the gravy out and leaves those behind. But if we try other foods that aren’t chunks, she just doesn’t consistently like them.
We are so glad you are still doing well, Raven!

How awesome that your human has a system working for you, Raven! We like that brand a lot too – but we will eat it chunky, so my human gets to be lazy, MOL!

  11. We can tell your mom really loves you, Raven! You know, some of us are the same way about dinners with gravy–lick all that up and leave the meat. Here, though, there’s always someone who will take advantage of the left-behind dinner!

  12. You have a wonderful mom, Raven ! We’re glad she found a food that you like and that works for you. Purrs

Whoa! I gotta suggest this to TW. I’m a licker too but after all the gravy is gone, I may go back and eat the chunks. Although since I won’t eat food that’s been refrigerated, I’m sure TW won’t do it.
