Toy hunt

Mom realized she hadn’t seen one of my favorite toys in a while so she decided to look for it. Sounds easy, right? Well, it would be easier if she didn’t have bad shoulders that prevent her from reaching under the furniture. It would also be easier if we didn’t have so much furniture that is just an inch or two off the floor where my toys get lost.

This is the yellow ball she’s looking for. It’s from the Jackson Galaxy brand. It’s lightweight, semi-soft, and wobbles when

you wack it.She searched under and behind everything, finding lots of other toys, including another ball from the Jackson Galaxy brand.

They did a good job with these toys because they’re a lot of fun for kitties who like to smack balls around!  The green one can even be tossed around using your teeth. This post is sounding like a product review, but it’s really about the search for my toys.

She counted about 20 pieces of furniture to look under, plus all the other nooks & crannies in the house where toys could end up.

Mom and Dad have big desks sitting back-to-back. Each desk has a pedestal on both sides and the little cut-out at the base is a toy magnet! There are always toys under here, and it’s a chore for Mom to get them out.

Of course everyone has beds to look under and there’s probably some stuff stored under there. Mom stores extra and emergency canned goods in bins under the spare bed and my toys are often under here. Behind one of the bins is where she found my yellow ball!

She found the chirpy mouse I got for Christmas under the cabinets in the breakfast nook. She had forgotten all about this toy.

She also discovered she needs to dust the floors under those cabinets! Since she was looking in every nook and cranny and moving furniture and stored items, she found many places where dust bunnies had escaped her usual weekly cleaning.

Mom gathered all the toys that were scattered around the house. As you can see, I have many toys with which I can amuse myself. I like sparkly balls and spongy balls. I also like other small things I can bat around. Mousie can be fun to chase and I also enjoy the occasional lick of a catnip toy.

I wonder how long it will be before she has to hunt for my favorite toys again.

I’m curious to know what some of your favorite toys are and if your humans need to hunt them down for you.

Dear Raven, we have a Ginger kitten in our house. At first we called her Pumpkin.A great friend made her a Pumpkin shape toy.Well its lost and cannot be found anywhere! We recently re-named this kitten Ginger!

  2. Brian says:

The peeps are always toy hunting but Brother Simon is really keeping them busy.

  3. George has those funny ball-cubes, too. He loves balls, bells, and feathers. He lost a toy I cannot find. Chloe Jo did, too. *augh*

  4. Ivan always keeps his favorite toy under the stove, so Mom has to pull out the pan drawer to get to it. We’ve also stashed a bunch behind and under the bookcases in the living room. The cutouts are in the back and she can’t get to them at all!

  5. Cathy Keisha says:

Right now my favorite green ball is missing but the peeps are in no hurry to find it. Hmmph! TW has put pieces of wood under some of the furniture so nothing can get under it. Autumn used to bat all her chestnuts under Pop’s dresser but they couldn’t go far with the wood across.

  6. Summer says:

That pretty much looks like our favorite toy stash! My human hides my sparkle balls in her desk drawer… well, hide isn’t really the right word for it because unless she braces the chair back in front of it, I’ll go into her drawer and get my sparkle balls out when I want to play with them.

  7. Gattina says:

I think you are a very kind cat to force your mum to do her gym every day ! That’s good for her health !

  8. 15andmeowing says:

It is like hide and seek for your Mom to look for them. I am happy to see you still have the toys I made 🙂 Ours end up under furniture too.

    • Raven says:

I’m pretty gentle with my toys so I expect they will last a long time. The eyeball is one of my favorites when I’m looking to bat around something with a little more weight to it.

  9. Grace says:

Would you believe my cats don’t play with toys? Frankie likes her wand toy – it has a ball on the end which she kills and then she drapes the whole thing around her and drags it through the house. She has no interest in catnip at all. Nothing interests BB, he just want to sit in a lap and have his scritched. My husband has expressed frustration with my constant buying of cat toys that our cats have not a scintilla of interest in.

    • Raven says:

My second kitty had a wand toy with a terrycloth fish on the end. She LOVED the fish and would drag the wand around. I ended up cutting the fish off the end and it was her most favorite toy.

  10. We have some of those new Jackson Galaxy balls and at night they are played with, and in the morning they are gone! I bought 3 more yesterday so maybe I would not have to search every morning, but half of them are gone again. I have been retrieving miscellaneous other balls as well.

  11. OMC that is too funny!!! Your Mom hit the mother lode!! catchatwithcarenandcody

  12. MOL ! It’s the treasure of Treasure Island ! Purrs

  13. It’s like Christmas! We know a whole bunch of our toys are under the china cabinet. But the mom won’t fish them out for us because she says they’ll just end up under there again.

  14. Jan K says:

Look at all those toys….nice! Samantha tends to lose interest in her toys after she’s had them for a bit. This does remind me though that she did have some favorite balls I haven’t seen in a while. With three pets in the house (and formerly a golden retriever), looking under furniture can be a little scary….dust bunnies I’ve missed is putting it mildly. 🙂

  15. Deziz World says:

Oh Raven, we have those Jackson Galaxy toys too. We never play with them. Our faves are da Yeowww nip nanners and hearts. And da silvervine sticks are really good, altho’ they get lost all da time. Mommy can’t get on da floor and find our stuffs, so she bought a stick with a brush on da end and bends t to fit and uses it while standin’ up. Glad you got your toys back. Have fun. Big hugs

    Luv ya’

  16. Shhh, don’t tell Chucky and Angel, but I threw out some of their toys this weekend, Raven! I found them in corners, covered in dust and fur…and since we have scads more, I decided to get rid of the dusty ones and break out new stock.

  17. Wow, that was some toy hunt! I swear, Rita’s favorite game is batting the ball under the sofa so that the hubs or I has to get down on our hands and knees and dig it out. (She can be very cat-like sometimes!) 🙂

  18. Mariodacat says:

We could swap stasches cuz mine looks about like your stash. I don’t play with toys by myslef hardly ever, so I don’t lose them. When M plays with mte, that’s whenwe lose things.
