Night-night Black Betta

Mom sent Black Betta to the Rainbow Brook last night. Black was a “veil tail” Betta with lacy fins.

Black Betta lived here for 18 months, which is a decent life for a fancy Betta. He’s been having trouble staying right-side up (he often floated on his side) for over a month and has been having a hard time swimming & eating for a couple weeks. Medication didn’t help and Mom decided his quality of life was poor so she put him out of his misery.

Instead of getting another fish right away, we’re going to move Orange Betta into Black’s tank. Orange Betta came here in May and we think he’ll enjoy having a larger tank with a super quiet filtration system. The tank also has a big piece of wood and more plants. It will take several days to complete the move with cleaning and getting the tank environment stable, but Orange should be in his new home by next weekend.

  5. We had one in a 10 gallon aquarium and he lived for 3 years. Zeke the cat was terrified of him. He died a month ago. Not getting more fish.

    • That’s a very long life for a Betta. We’ve had a few live 2+ years but they were the plainer ones. I’m surprised Zeke was so afraid of him – that’s actually kind of funny.

  6. We’re sorry for the loss of Black Betta. Purrs

What a pretty betta. I’m sorry for your loss.

  8. We’re sorry that Black Beta went to the Bridge. But it sounds like he had a good life.

  9. Mary McNeil says:

Those of us who keep company with furries tend to overlook that other kinds of pets can be just as loved and valuable. And missed.

We have 6 Betta tanks and one saltwater coral tank. The Bettas are fairly interactive and can be amusing. Our saltwater cleaner shrimp is very entertaining. Even if we don’t “love” them like we do the furries, we never want to see them suffer.

  10. We send purrs to your mum .
We are sure she is sad to loose such a pretty fish.

We’re sure sorry to hear about that little sweet one.

  12. We love the thought of a Rainbow Brook, even if it’s sad he had to swim away. He sure was a handsome little fishie.

  13. Jan K says:

RIP, beautiful Black Beta! We are glad something good can come out of something bad, and Orange Beta will have some new improved digs. ♥

  14. I am sorry for your loss. I love Bettas, especially black ones & white ones. I wish Orange Betta a long life! Hugs.
