A milestone box.

We’re too late to celebrate International Box Day, but Raven finally decided the box her food comes in was worth investigating. It’s a mediocre picture but I wasn’t sure she’d ever get back in the box. It took $1666 of food orders for her to get in a box, so I took the photo I could get!

I now have a 6-month supply of her food. For any new blog visitors, Raven is allergic to chicken and fish. This is the only food she eats so I’m not taking any chances of running out anytime soon. Paws crossed she doesn’t develop an allergy to any of the ingredients. You can see I note the flavor (L=lamb, R=Rabbit) and the expiration month & year on the edge so I rotate the food correctly. I’ll have to start some new stacks because getting the newest food to the bottom involves a lot of heavy lifting!

That is an expensive photo 🙂 You are a great Mom to stock up.

    • Raven says:

She’s already eaten half of that $1600 food bill. I know I’m fortunate to be able to buy ahead and build up a safety net for Raven.

  2. Wow, look at those stacks! And I thought ‘I’ was a crazy stock-up-on-cat-food person, but you’ve got me beat by a mile. But if it’s best for Raven, then it’s the only way to go!

    • Raven says:

I used to stock up when food was on sale and I’d keep a few cases on hand for convenience and emergency supplies. But this is the first time I’ve felt the need to keep a large food supply for health reasons.

  3. Summer says:

You are smart to stock up! You never know what these companies are going to do as far as changing recipes or selling out to another company, etc.

    • Raven says:

Exactly. I bet we’ve all been in the situation of a favorite food being discontinued or reformulated. Raven was miserable for too long and we’ve worked too hard to get her healthy for me to risk not having time to transition to a new food (if needed).

  4. How pawsome to have a good supply of kitty food 🙂
It is smart to have a good supply of food she likes and needs .

  5. Brian says:

Yes, I think that’s smart too since we’ve been had a couple of times too when the company “new and improved” a favorite and then we wouldn’t eat it.

    • Raven says:

Yes. I’m starting to wonder if I should make my supply a little larger. Maybe I should also start looking for other foods that might work for Raven.

  6. Jan K says:

Wow, great job on the stocking up!

Maybe now that Raven has experienced the box you won’t be able to keep her out of them. 🙂

    • Raven says:

Maybe. But there will probably be fewer boxes coming now that I don’t have to build up the pantry and just need to replace what she’s eating.

  7. I am afraid the cats would suddenly decide they are tired of what I stockpiled and want something new. Fortunately, with 4 cats, someone will eat it!

    • Raven says:

Isn’t that the truth! Friends with cats and the local shelter have often been the benefactor of our cats’ fickle palates.

  8. MOL, that’s a precious and expensive box ! Enjoy it ! Purrs

  9. Now that’s a box worth getting into, Raven. Enjoy all your foods. 🙂

  10. Mary McNeil says:

Good for Raven ! And what a dedicated cat Mom you are !

  11. We are so happy you are feeling better and even having some fun! Hugs!

  12. BZ Dogs says:

    That’s quite the supply!

  13. Cathy Keisha says:

Whoa! TW just stocked up on my food too but only about 3 months worth. Concats on getting in the box. When we get a box, it’s always dented in it never looks like that.
