Would you be brave enough to climb this tree?

Our neighborhood has a few HUGE oak trees. They’re called “heritage” oaks and they’ve been around for a couple hundred years. Unfortunately, they sometimes drop limbs (which can be the size of a large tree) and need to be taken down. This gigantic oak split a huge limb off the bottom and crashed into the owner’s garage and car. Today, a crew was taking the tree down.

This photo gives you a sense of how big the tree was. They’ve already trimmed about 80 percent of the tree.

Can you see the tree guy about half way up on the left? He looks tiny.

See him now?

Mom estimates this tree is about 100 feet tall (30 meters). If I were an outdoor kitty, I think I’d be brave enough to climb up, but I wouldn’t want to look down. And I think I’d need to be rescued. Would you be brave enough to climb it?

  1. That is one HUGE tree! We might be brave enough to climb up it…but coming down would be a whole ‘nother story. 🙂

  2. Summer says:

Wow, that tree is ginormous! How sad it has to be taken down. I don’t know if I’d want to climb one of those trees – what if it shed a branch I was on?

  3. 15andmeowing says:

Yikes! That is a job I could never do.

  4. Wow, that tree really is huge! It seems such a shame it has to come down. I would not want to be that tree guy!

  5. Brian says:

I think I might just sit there and cheer someone else on!

  6. Poor tree. We are always sad when a tree needs to go (and mad when they don’t need to but owners remove them anyway). We think we wouldn’t care to climb one quite that big–we’d prefer to admire it from afar!

  7. It would be nice to count the tree rings and see how old the tree is.

  8. Just Ducky says:

HUGE Tree, we had guys climbing in our trees this summer but just giving them a trim.

  9. I’d climb it. I’m always trying to climb as high as possible.

  10. Cathy Keisha says:

Whoa! Tht’s like climbing the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

  11. Wow, that’s a big tree ! Pixie would be crazy enough to climb it, but not me ! Purrs, Zorro

  12. Grace says:

Nobody can climb that tree without a lot of help – well since they took it down, no one will be climbing that tree at all – sad that it had to go.

  13. Wowie! Tree-climbers and arborists are a special breed; it’s scary up there!

  14. Umm…no. We have a friend who used to do tree care. He was literally like a monkey, though he looked like a Fraggle. Anyway, he was amazing. It was great, because Bill does not do heights. Go figure. He drives a tractor and 53′ trailer through all kinds of weather and terrain.

  15. Wow, that’s a huge tree! You wouldn’t catch me (or Rita!) up in that! 🙂 How sad that it had to come down.
