Blood Happens! (nothing gory)

You know the phrase “Sh!t Happens”. Well, we had a “Blood Happens!” mishap.

I went to the vet last Friday (February 9). I’ve been feeling poorly occasionally, and I’ve lost 1 pound over the last 6 months. Sometimes I have super gurgly guts that you can hear from across the room. I lose my appetite or vomit a little, and just feel poorly for a day. Since I’m 13+ years old, Mom suspects I’m developing some health issues and wanted to get me checked out.

The vet gave me a thorough exam and agrees that I’m probably starting to have some type of intestinal health issues. He took some of my blood and suggested medications we can use to keep my digestive system calm.

When Mom called for my test results, the vet apologized and said they lost my blood! They didn’t lose the results, they lost my blood!

I’ll go back to the vampire on Monday so he can steal my blood again.

The worst part about having to give blood is that it’s a 40 minute drive each way, so it cuts into my morning sunpuddle time!

I do have some good new to share. Mom found another allergy-friendly food that I enjoy. It’s made by the same company that makes the food I currently eat, but it has more of the rabbit meatiness that I like. Mom’s hoping my interest in this food will make it easier for me to maintain my weight.

  1. Raven! That’s terrible that your vet lost your bloods. We’re sorry you’re having GI issues. Ernie and Zoey can relate to that since they both have GI issues, too.

  2. 15andmeowing says:

That is awful, you poor kitty. Sorry you have to go back to the vet. I hope yor tummy feels better with your new food and that your blood results will be good. XO

  3. Scout Mango and all of our Moms, Brenda says:

Oh NO! Lost your Blood, How can such a thing happen? Is your Mom sure this is the best veterinarian for you? Now if they accidentally dropped the glass vial and broke it sounds way better than WE LOST Your Blood? So do you enjoy Rabbit? Hmm! What brand helps? See I barfs a lot myself but myself, Mango here, Not Mom! It worries Mom if I barfs a bunch in one day! Mine aeems Hairballs related because I have long and very lomg furrs in 2 coats!

I hope your tummy feels better Raven! Perhaps you should get the Veterinarian Stabby guy to stabs himselfs once to make you feels better for him losing or dropping your Blood!

    • Raven says:

We are 100% happy with my vet. Mom has been taking all of us there for nearly 20 years and we drive 30 miles past many, many other vets to go to him. Sometimes mixups happen and other than having to make another trip, there was no harm done.

  4. Summer says:

What a bummer you have to go get your blood taken all over again! I’m glad you have some food you like, though – my human knows how difficult that can be.

  5. Good luck wif da vampire on Monday!

  6. Brian says:

Dang! Sorry you had that long drive again and we are sure purring for your tummy to be okay.

  7. Mary McNeil says:

Raven – first I hope you get better soon. But as for losing your blood – one morning near Christmas (several years ago) I went to the hospital for a blood draw for parathyroid issues. This particular blood test needs the blood to be frozen, so they put the test tube in a cup of ice and stuck it in the lab fridge. Two weeks later they called and told me they had lost my blood. I wonder if it got mixed in with some party supplies for an actual “Bloody Mary”? Purrs !

  8. Jan K says:

We’re sorry to hear you haven’t been feeling too great, Raven, and that you have to give your blood a second time! Just be careful at that office….maybe there’s more than one vampire around there? Ha ha, just kidding! We hope you feel better soon, and enjoy that new food!

  9. Hope you get useful results and get an easy treatment regimen.

  10. Bummer that your vet lost your blood ! Are you sure he didn’t secretly drink it ? We hope you get useful results. We hope you’ll enjoy your new food. Purrs

  11. Annie says:

That’s a bummer, Raven! Now you have another long car ride and have to be stabbed again. It’s good news that you’ve found another food you like. We sure you hope your tummy will feel better soon or that the vet will know just what to do to help.

  12. Yikes! The Vet lost your blood?
Now you have to go back?
    That’s terrible.
We hope the new food will make up for all the trouble.
We will send purrs that all goes well with you.
    Purrs Georgia,Julie and JJ

  13. You poor girl. We actually think the long car ride would be much worse than giving more blood! But of course we are a bunch of crybabies in the car. 🙂

    P.S. We like your bat!

    • Raven says:

I don’t like getting put in my carrier, but once I’m zipped in and in the car, I’m generally very quiet both there and back.
The bat is part of our Halloween decorations. We have one big one and lots of little bats.

  14. They lost your blood? MOUSES! You think some blood bank thieves stole it, in the the middle of the night? purrs

  15. We think you deserve something extra nice to make up for another visit to the vampire!

  16. We love bats around here, since they pollinate plants and eat seeds. None of them suck blood. Having said that, the fact that the vet’s office lost your blood sample seems awfully careless. Raven, didn’t they put the vial on a pillow of velvet? How could they lose a pillow?

  17. Cathy Keisha says:

Make sure you get some of THEIR blood so YOU can lose it. You dare them. Sending healing purrz that you feel better soon.

  18. So sorry you had to go through that, Raven. Hope you are OK soon.

    Purrs xx
    Athena and Marie

  19. BZ Dogs says:

Good grief! It’s hard to imagine how you lose such a thing. Hope you are feeling purr-fect in no time.
