New Show on Bird T.V.

I saw a new bird in the yard today.  It’s called a Spotted Towhee.

He was searching in the bark for food.SpottedTowhee1.jpg
With his rust colored sides and spotted wings, he’s one of the more colorful birds we’ve seen in our yard.

If you want to see a really good photo from a bird site, there’s one here.

I hope he comes back.

We have never had one of those. Very pretty.

    Wow, awesome Bird TV!

  4. We have towhees here but I cannot say I seen a spotted one. The cats are not talking.

  5. Brian Frum says:

It look like it’s fun to watch and it sure is pretty!

  6. I attended a bird-banding class last week, but none of the birds were as colorful at this spotted towhee!

  7. Jan K says:

Nice!! We’ve seen these too, but not for a while now! I thought they were called “rufous-sided towhee”, but apparently they’ve split that into two new birds now: the spotted and the Eastern. Now I don’t know which one I saw, I don’t remember if it had the spots on the wings or not.

    • When I was in college, I also learned it as the “rufous-sided towhee”. I think we used to call the “white-tailed kite” a “black shouldered kite”. But that was a long time ago 🙂

  8. What a beautiful bird ! We wonder if it’s tasty… Purrs

He is stunning. We don’t remember ever seeing one of these previously. We too hope he returns to your bird TV screen. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

He is gorgeous. I really like his coloring. Lucky you, Raven!

  11. What a neat birdie! We never get to see fun birds anymore. 😦
